Our Official Paws for Charlie Press Release

* Press Release *
Paws for Charlie
Benefit for Companion Dog for 3-Year Old Charlie
&
Buffalo Companion Animal Network (CAN)
Sunday, July 13th, 2-5 p.m.

Paws for Charlie, a festive benefit event to be held at InSite Gallery in the heart of the Elmwood Strip, will happen on Sunday, July 13th from 2-5 p.m.

Paws for Charlie will help raise the funds necessary to acquire a companion dog for three-year old Charlie Kahlsdorf, who lives with his parents and younger sister in Vancouver, Washington. The total cost of a therapeutic, companion dog is approximately $3,000.

Proceeds from Paws for Charlie will also benefit Buffalo CAN (Companion Animal Network), a non-profit organization that helps people acquire loving, loyal pets. Buffalo CAN is linked with Meals on Wheels and runs AniMeals to feed pets of those who require food delivery to their residences.

Charlie was diagnosed with autism at the age of two. Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by impaired verbal and nonverbal communication: those suffering with autism have difficulty connecting with the world around them – companion animals help keep an individual with autism safe from harm, and bridge social gaps, especially in the case of children.

Paws for Charlie will feature upbeat, live marimba music by Tiffany Nicely (Charlie’s Buffalo-based musician aunt), Ringo Brill, and Gabriel Gutierrez. Accompanying the trio will be vocalist Annie Deck-Miller. Attorney and local music director Theresa Quinn will also be performing on keyboards and singing with drummer Tom Brown. Food and beverages for adults/children/pets will be served. A craft project for dogs and kids will take place in the courtyard of InSite Gallery. Chinese and silent auctions for many lovely donated goods, services, and gift baskets from Buffalo businesses will take place.

Tickets are $10 for children, and $20 for adults and will be available at the door. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased at City Creatures Animal Hospital at 2113 Delaware Avenue or via mail - checks may be made out to Buffalo C.A.N. and mailed to 201 Norwalk Avenue, Buffalo NY 14216.

InSite Gallery is located at 810 Elmwood Avenue, between Auburn and Lafayette and directly across from Lexington Co-Op Market.
